Simon and Jeanne, adult twins, grew up in Canada but their oddball, withdrawn mother is an exile from somewhere in the Middle East. When she dies, they receive instructions from her to go back to her country and find their father, whom they believed was dead, and a brother they didn't know they had. Jeanne immediately embraces this journey to find her past. Simon resists but eventually follows. Together they uncover their mother's untold story that, horrific as it is, allows them finally to know her.
