It strikes me as a very typical, done a million times before, coming of age teenage comedy. Even the characters are typical with the skinny, somewhat awkward, main character accompanied by his fat, funny, lovable sidekick. It does, however, look very watchable and is guaranteed to have a good soundtrack following along with the recent 80′s revival. I mean, come on, the name of the thing is “Take Me Home Tonight,” which is easily one of the greatest songs ever written by one of the most talented musicians of all time, yes I am referring to Mr. Eddy Money. Throw in the old school glass Pepsi bottle and it looks like one big roller coaster of 80′s fun. I have to say though that the most exciting part of the movie was seeing Demitri Martin pop up, I love that guy. I remember seeing his stand up for the first time and nearly wetting myself from laughing so hard. However he is pretty dry humor, so I don’t know how well that will mix with the dry personality of Topher Grace. I can’t say that I’m excited about this movie, but I’m sure I will see it at some stage and get a few cheap laughs out of it, but overall I’d say its pretty forgettable.

I like the look and feel of this movie. Some of it may have to do with the story being set in the 1980s, but the actors in it look very different from other places that I’ve seen them. Topher Grace, playing what seems to be the main character Matthew, has a new haircut that makes him look grown up instead of goofy. He also looks a little worn down by life; this may be intentional. There is also a girl who I think is Anna Faris, looking a little different with brown hair but basically playing the same sort of fun-loving girl that she’s been in other movies. And then there is Tori, a possible love interest for Matthew, who looks like a blond Kristen Stewart and may even be portrayed by that actress. If it is her, then it was a great choice.

In Tori’s few appearances, there always seems to be more going on behind the eyes; she is not just a pretty face. The schlubby sidekick seems to be staple of male-bonding movies these days, but in Take Me Home Tonight, the guy pal doesn’t look that bad, but that may be because the guys cleaned themselves up and put on suits for the big party. The plot also seems promising: it’s not just about a party but about the characters’ life choices, particularly a revelation the main character (Matthew, played by Grace) may have about his own life. So there is fun and glamour, but it’s not a completely mindless movie.

This movie doesn’t look all that interesting. Although it doesn’t seem like an awful movie to watch. I would not go to the movies to see it or rent it when it comes out. I would probably wait until a friend brings it over to watch or it was on television or something like that. Maybe if my boyfriend wanted to see it or something I would go. He kind of likes movies like this. I would prefer a suspense or horror film. I am not really into the funny genre. Unless it is a classic comedy or extremely hilarious, I would probably make an exception and watch it.

This particular movie did not strike me as one of those exceptions. Nevertheless I might have to eat my own words because it does have some actors in it that I have like over the years. Topher Grace, I loved as Eric on that 70s’ Show, but every time I end up watching a movie with him in it I hate the movie. He is a great actor, but I prefer not to watch the movies he plays in, (For example Sea Biscuit). I also find it the same with actress Anna Faris. I love and admire her as an actress,just like Topher, but the movie roles that she land usually are not that great. I would like to maybe see them both do a much better movie than House Bunny or Sea Biscuit, seriously. It could be that some actors should just stick to the small screen because their fans identify with them better there. Some people are made for the big screen an some are just not.
